![]() Hope you enjoy! Oh, and as a nice little extra credit fact - the music video for single “Boilermaker” was conceptualised and created by none other than “United States of Whatever” singer, Liam Lynch. Engineer credits include Matt Wiggins (Usher, Glass Animals, Will Young), Luke Pickering (Birdy, Sam Ryder, Mumford & Sons), Marcus Locock (Cliff Richard, JC Stewart, Dizzee Rascal) and even vocal production on by Riley McIntyre (James Vincent McMorrow, James Bay, The Vamps).Additional production by Paul Epworth (Adele, London Grammar, James Bay, Lorde, Paul McCartney - literally this guy is a MASTER who has so many hits it’s unbelievable).Aside from his own rock royalty status in QOTSA and Eagles of Death Metal, he has also produced albums for Arctic Monkeys, Grinderman and CRX. Produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age who is a master of the big sludge-y wall of sound in rock production. ![]() My recommendation is to just start at the beginning and play the record through - loud. ![]() It’s full of hope, restored energy and optimism. This record tackles Mike’s issues with alcohol and substance abuse, written from the point of sobriety and all of the clarity and drive that comes with a new determined focus. That foot-tapping may creep it’s way up your body rather swiftly as soon you’ll be nodding and swaying and potentially you’ll just get up and dance. Typhoons is a further evolution in Royal Blood’s sound with the addition of some really dance-able disco style beats, synths and layered vocals that make it impossible not to tap your feet. The pair are so in sync that their groove is simply insatiable. Their sound is simply immense and all-consuming thanks to Mike’s custom hybrid bass guitar which he plays like a lead guitar splitting the signal between a series of bass and guitar amps - and a tonne of distortion. Ben Thatcher on drums and Mike Kerr on guitars. ![]() ![]() Cue Royal Blood: a two-piece like no other. Anyone who knows me is well aware that I love a big rock riff, and that I’m always searching for the next truly progressive sound in a genre that is so often digressive. It might be too soon to call it, given that Adele is landing on November 19th, however, my album of the year SO FAR is Typhoons by Royal Blood. ![]()
